A PLAN to put up 115 new homes in South Molton has been approved.
North Devon Council's planning committee is backing the first phase of a hybrid application, which will eventually involve the construction of 250 homes on a site to the west of North Road.
Developer Linden Homes made the application in July and it was brought before the district council for approval on December 19.
The site in North Road is within the land to be allocated for development in South Molton's local plan next year.
So far only the first phase has been approved, along with means of access for the second phase. A new roundabout will be created to allow access into the housing estate.
The second phase of the project involves an additional 135 homes along with a new health centre, to which the East Street Surgery will be relocated.
Three public consultations have been held on the proposed development.
And a number of concerns have been raised regarding sewerage, drainage, the effect on wildlife and affordable housing levels.
