RAYMOND Dupree has convictions going back to his teenage years and turned his vicious temper on his own family several times before killing Ryan King.

He went to borstal as a teenager and has been to jail several times since for burglary, theft, violence and public order offences.

He once assaulted his sister and has convictions for assaults or making threats on regular occasions since 1962.

The judge at his murder trial ruled that the jury should not hear of his violent past.

He barred his family from telling the jury about how he had behaved, and details of his criminal past only came to light after his latest conviction.

The judge was absolutely right. This is a pernicious law introduced by the last Government to effectively convict people by prejudice. Dupree perhaps should have been dealt with more effectively in the past. But here justice was done without recourse to the jury being nobbled by the prosecution. I hope he dies in prison for what he did. A horrible psychopath who perhaps should have been in Broadmoor keeping Ian Brady company by the sound of it.
