PUPILS will welcome some wheel-y inspiring visitors this week, ahead of the Tour of Britain cycle race.

Performance Cycles CMI, the under-23 cycling team run by the South West Bike Academy, will attend a number of school assemblies in September to encourage pupils to take up cycling or cycle more often.

The first leg of the future cycling stars' tour of country primary schools will be Witheridge Primary School on Thursday.

Devon County Council is hosting stage seven of The Tour of Britain on Saturday, September 15, covering a hilly 170km route across Dartmoor.

Record crowds are expected to line the route for this year's visit of the Tour, boasting its strongest ever field including Tour de France winner Bradley Wiggins and reigning world champion Mark Cavendish.

The under-23 team will visit schools to encourage pupils to take up cycling or cycle more often.

The excitement is set to be continued after the race's visit with the junior team also planning a visit to an assembly at South Molton Infants School on Thursday, September 20.
