A WARD manager who is described as "giving her job 110 per cent" is the latest person to be nominated as an unsung hero of healthcare.
Leanne Harris, who works at Tiverton and District Hospital, has been nominated by a fellow staff member in the contest run by a local health trust.
The nomination reads: "She gives her job 110 per cent, is always approachable and is brilliant with the patients."
Northern Devon Healthcare Trust has teamed up with the Gazette to run the contest which aims to find those members of staff who deserve to be rewarded for going above and beyond the call of duty.
April Bishop from Pinnex Moor contacted the Gazette to nominate Dawn Davey who works as a healthcare assistant at the hospital.
Mrs Bishop said: "She is a very caring nursing professional. She has great sympathy with all the patients and is admired by both patients and staff. She has a very rare gift of always putting everyone at ease, in sometimes very difficult and frightening circumstances. She is always kind and has a ready smile. Marks out of 10 – 20."
Nominations have also continued to pour in for Mandy Harper who set up a club for patients with dementia. She has received a total of almost 20 nominations since the campaign launched in November.
The public is invited to contact the Gazette and nominate any member of Trust staff – no matter what their job role is. Candidates may work in Tiverton or Crediton hospitals or in a health centre or in outreach services visiting patients in their own homes.
You can nominate your heroes by emailing Richard Wevill at email@example.com or by writing to the Mid Devon Gazette series, Raymond Penny House, Phoenix Lane, Tiverton, EX16 6LU. Don't forget to mention your name and the reason why you are nominating your chosen individual.
Alternatively you can nominate online by visiting northdevonhealth.nhs.uk
The deadline for nominations is midnight on Tuesday, December 31.
The winners will be presented with their awards early in the New Year.
