CULLOMPTON Town Council may have to take on responsibility and costs of running the town's public conveniences.

Mid Devon District Council House bosses have already asked Tiverton Town Council to accept responsibility for some of the six toilet blocks it maintains there at a cost of more than £56,000 each year.

Now, there is concern people in Cullompton will have to pay more in council tax if local councillors are asked to take on the loos at Station Road in the new year.

Cllr Pauline Hammett said: "The taxpayer is paying enough; surely Mid Devon council can supply one toilet in the town."
