FOOTBALLING legend Peter Shilton has agreed to come to Cullompton to officially open the town's new car park.
England's most capped player will lead an opening ceremony when the bays are completed later this month.
Shilton is a close friend of Willand resident Reg Payne, who bought the former magistrates court building and is redeveloping it to create 50 car parking spaces.
Traders in the town hope the new facility wil encourage more shoppers to use Cullompton shops.
It is not yet known how the opening ceremony will be conducted, but Mr Payne has suggested the former goalie could turn up in a vintage steam-powered car.
The car park will also serve the Hayridge Centre, which is next door.
