POLICE are searching for a group of people who attacked a man from behind in Tiverton's People's Park and stole money from his distinctive 'Zippy' wallet.

The wallet was in the shape of the boisterous character from the television programme Rainbow. A group of three offenders made off with £65 following the assault and robbery.

The 24-year-old victim, from Tiverton, was walking through People's Park in the early hours of Saturday, September 8, when he was struck on the back of the head from behind.

The blow knocked him to the ground and he lost consciousness.

When he came round he was lying on his back with three men around him, one of whom was removing his distinctive wallet and tobacco from his pocket.

Detectives are now appealing for witnesses to the assault which happened around 1am. The men were all described as white; one was tall with a bald head and another was shorter and wearing a yellow T-shirt.

The victim had previously walked through the Market area, into Castle Street, through Bartows Causeway before heading into People's Park.

Anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area or anyone who has information about the assault is asked to contact police on 101, quoting crime reference KT/12/1427.
