PEOPLE who live or work in Dulverton are being sought to help man the town's fire station.

Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service is looking for retained fire fighters.

The service's Paul Slaven said: "No previous experience of fire fighting is necessary – the ideal prospective fire fighter starts with a commitment to the community, a positive attitude and a good level of fitness."

Men or women who live and/or work within a five minutes' response time to the fire station are being sought as they could have the potential to save lives in the event of fire, flood and road traffic emergencies.

Being on-call means retained firefighters provide a level of cover while at work or at home and when a pager alerts them to attend a station.

People who can give cover during the day are particularly needed.

They must be over 18 and have a good level of fitness. The service will give people advice and help in preparing for both the written and practical assessments.

More information can be obtained by calling 01392 872 200.
