AGE UK Mid Devon is joining up with other Age UK branches and Plymouth University to hold a joyful celebration of Christmas at Exeter Cathedral this week.

Renowned mezzo soprano opera singer Alison Kettlewell, the Salvation Army band, The Kingsmen Barbership Harmony Chorus and the choir of Redhills Community Primary School will perform at the event on Thursday.

Also performing, courtesy of Plymouth University, will be the Ten Tors Orchestra – The Chamber Orchestra for Devon and Cornwall.

The event from 2pm will feature favourite seasonal songs, carols, and musical performances and Christmas readings.

Debbie Westlake of Age UK Mid Devon, said: "Relationships with local organisations including Age UK Devon are important to enable us to deliver services for older people across Devon. We are very happy to be working with Plymouth University, and other generous supporters, to host this wonderful event."

A Christmas reading will be given by Plymouth University Vice Chancellor, Professor Wendy Purcell, and the welcome will be given by 'Green Goddess' and Age UK 'The Wireless' presenter Diana Moran.

Professor Wendy Purcell commented; "It is with the utmost pleasure that we are working with Age UK Devon and Age UK Mid Devon to bring this festive celebration to the historic Exeter Cathedral."

Support for this event has been generously offered by South West Water, Devon Trading Standards and Foot Anstey solicitors among others.

Tickets are free and can be reserved by contacting Age UK Mid Devon on 01884 255369 or enquiries@ageukmiddevon.org.uk.
